Arkavidia Informatics and IT Festival 6.0: Embracing Our Nation in Digital Transformation

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Informatics Student Association (HMIF) Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) held the Arkavidia Informatics and IT Festival 6.0 at ITB on February 8-9 2020. With the theme Embracing Our Nation in Digital Transformation, this event consisted of several series of activities, namely competitions for high school students and university students, IT Festival, seminars and  roadshows to high schools in Bandung.

According to Mira Risty (STI 2016), as the head of the committee for Arkavidia Informatics and IT Festival 6.0, the theme this year is a response to the development of digital transformation, especially in Indonesia. “As students who have knowledge of IT, HMIF has a strategic role, position, and potential in order to help the government to educate the nation’s life, especially in the field of information technology,” he explained.

One of the agenda items at Arkavidia 6.0 is Arkavidia Talk. This activity is a seminar that invites practitioners and professionals in the information technology industry, with the aim of being a medium for exchanging ideas, adding insight into technological developments, and opening opportunities for collaboration. The event invited Jo Yusuf Astra as Vice President of IT of PT. Paragon Technology and Innovation and Maria Tjahjadi as Vice President of Data Analytics at tiket.com.

Jo revealed that the current information technology has influenced activities at Paragon Technology and Innovation as a whole. For example, the presence of information technology makes it easier for Paragon to observe market developments and the emergence of e-commerce and social media platforms are also very useful for product sales. “The development of information technology makes it necessary for us to adjust activities related to production. Information technology is useful as a support for activity units from upstream to downstream, from the procurement of raw materials to the hands of consumers, “he said.

Meanwhile, Maria Tjahjadi shared her experience regarding the development of information technology in the field of online travel agents. He said that the tourism business is one of the fastest-growing businesses currently developing. The existence of digital transformation has made many people have switched to booking holiday accommodation through the website or online. That’s what made tiket.com appear. “The existence of tourism development by the Government of Indonesia and the needs of the community have made the tourism business one of the fastest-growing businesses. This business involves many components such as modes of transportation, lodging, tour guides, tourist attractions, and others,” he explained.

Maria said that online travel agents are tasked with integrating suppliers with consumers so that a business ecosystem is formed that is interconnected with one another. In addition, the use of artificial intelligence supports tiket.com activities. “One of them is search engines, name recognition, and chatbots,” he said.
