ITB Student Team Represents Indonesia in the 2019 CASEiT International Competition in Canada
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Four students from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) represented Indonesia in the event “CASEiT 2019” which was organized by the Beedie School of Business, Simon Fraser University, in Vancouver, Canada, February 17-22, 2019. They were from a total of 16 participants and were also one of the three teams from Asia in the event.
CASEiT 2019 is an international business and technology competition aimed at undergraduate students with a combination of knowledge in information systems management and business management. This year, CASEiT carries the theme "Speed of Technology," with the mission of providing a global stage for competitors who have critical business and technology thinking to re-arrange business and technology innovations to solve current business problems.
CaseIT 2019 is designed in the form of 6 days of competition with 1 shortcase and 1 longcase that challenges its tightness. Invitations to participate in the competition were received ITB directly from the organizers with the nature of a closed competition invitation only for leading universities from all over North America, Asia Pacific, Europe, and Australia. Of course, the invitation was motivated by a good track record in the International Business-IT Case event.
The ITB team is represented by 3 students from the study program Information System and Technology (STI) STEI-ITB (School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics) namely Muhammad Fata Nurrahman, Rifda Annelies Az Zahra, Alessandro Aria Wibowo and 1 student from the Business Management study program SBM-ITB (School of Business and Management) namely Khairul Arifin.
Previously, they had to take part in an internal selection held by the STI study program to represent ITB in this international event. The four admitted to having done a lot of preparation, starting from practicing presentations with their fellow students, presenting in front of lecturers STEI, SBM and coaches from Go-Jek, to raising sponsorship funds.
For them, CASEiT 2019 was a valuable experience in participating in the IT business competition at the global level. "Honestly, I was a little nervous because it was my first time, and it was also a bit of pressure because I was representing ITB and Indonesia. But I am very grateful for the valuable opportunity to compete with the best universities from all over the world," said Fata.
Meanwhile, for Rifda, being the sole delegate from ITB and Indonesia is a priceless honor. "Actually, our main goal in participating in this competition is to measure our respective abilities in applying the knowledge we've learned in college and to see how our abilities compare to international students," she added.
The 2019 CASEiT competition was a challenge for every member of the ITB team, especially in their respective fields. "I had to learn more about IT, and the hardest part was understanding the terms that were unfamiliar to me. This competition not only gave me a lot of experience, but also gave me new insights on how to effectively bridge the gap between business and technology," said Arifin.
Although no Asian team has yet achieved a top ranking in this event, they expressed gratitude for being part of a team representing Indonesia in this prestigious international competition. In addition to internal support from ITB, this substantial competition also received support from several Indonesian state-owned enterprises.
