Pico-Hydro Technology Success: SEEI ITB Generates Energy for Local Communities
Bandung, stei.itb.ac.id – On 12 January 2025, after going through an installation and testing process, the Pico-Hydro technology developed by a team from the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of the Bandung Institute of Technology (SEEI ITB) successfully demonstrated outstanding results. The team, led by Dr. Briyan Denove, managed to install a small-scale power plant in a remote village, and the system is now operating properly.
This project aims to provide access to renewable energy for communities in areas that previously did not have electricity. The Pico-Hydro technology uses water flow as an energy source, harnessing the surrounding natural potential without damaging the environment. As a result, residents can now enjoy a stable electricity supply for daily needs such as lighting, charging electronic devices, and powering simple production equipment.
The beneficiary villagers also expressed their enthusiasm. One community leader stated, “We feel greatly helped. Our village is now brighter, and nighttime activities have become much easier. Thank you to the team from SEEI ITB for bringing this major change to our village.”
This Pico-Hydro project is one of SEEI ITB’s initiatives in supporting the development of sustainable renewable energy technologies. Previously, in a news release published some time ago [SEEI ITB Team Develops a Portable Pico-Hydro Power Plant to Support Rattan Harvesting in Sumpur Kudus Village], the installation of this system was mentioned as part of ongoing research and community service efforts carried out by SEEI ITB. With this success, it is hoped that similar technologies can be implemented in more locations to help communities that still face difficulties in accessing energy.
This achievement serves as concrete evidence of how academia, technology, and society can work together to create meaningful change. SEEI ITB once again demonstrates its commitment to making tangible contributions to society through technological innovation.
With this accomplishment, SEEI ITB continues to strengthen its position as a pioneer in the development of renewable energy technologies in Indonesia. It is hoped that this project will inspire various similar initiatives in the future.
