STEI ITB Students Win 3rd Place at BRIN AIDeaNation 2026 with HujanNet Innovation

Bandung, stei.itb.ac.id — Three students from the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Institut Teknologi Bandung (STEI ITB), won 3rd Place at BRIN AIDeaNation 2026 through their innovation, HujanNet: Turning BTS Networks into Rain Gauges for AI-Based Flood Early Warning Systems. The team consists of Raditya Wibian Sastaka (13525019) as team leader, Muhammad Adnan Kurniawan (13525071), and Sulthan Dhiyazka Suwandi (13525124).

AIDeaNation 2026 is a national-level competition organized by Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) under the theme “AI for Sustainable Future”. At the event’s culmination on August 13, 2026, at JIEXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta, HujanNet secured third place among the selected top innovations.

HujanNet was developed as a solution for rainfall monitoring and flood early warning by utilizing the widespread Base Transceiver Station (BTS) network. Changes in communication signal characteristics during rainfall are processed using an artificial intelligence approach to help estimate rainfall intensity without the need to build an entirely new sensor network.

This achievement highlights the ability of STEI ITB students to develop AI-based innovations that address real-world challenges. Through HujanNet, Raditya, Muhammad Adnan, and Sulthan have introduced an idea that leverages telecommunications infrastructure to support disaster mitigation while also earning recognition at the national level.

The achievement is expected to encourage further testing and implementation of HujanNet and inspire other STEI ITB students to continue creating innovations that can make a meaningful impact on society.
