ITB Student Team Wins 1st Place in Jamkrindo Hackathon 2019 After Creating the "Jepret" App
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – A team of students from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) has created an app called Jepret. The app complements and updates data on MSMEs in Indonesia, encouraging the public to review and document MSMEs in their area.
In the Jepret app, users can view a list of nearby MSMEs. While visiting one, they can answer several questions to complete the MSME's data entry into the Jamkrindo database. After answering the questions, users will be directed to take a photo of the business location. This photo will be further analyzed to validate the received data.
The application was created by Cornelius Yan Mintareja (Informatics 2016) as team leader, Feby Eliana Tengry (Information System and Technology 2017), Christzen Leonardy (IF 16), Gabriel Bentara Raphael (IF 16), and Muhammad Aditya Hilmy (STI 17). Through this application, they succeeded in becoming the first place winner of Jamkrindo Hackathon 2019, a national scale competition held by the Indonesian Credit Guarantee Company (Perum Jamkrindo) in Jakarta on July 9-13, 2019.
With the theme "Smart Access Technology," the 2019 Jamkrindo Hackathon was a competition designed to address Jamkrindo's internal issues. This hackathon, a type of competition, required participants to implement their proposed ideas within 48 hours. Participants came from a wide range of backgrounds, including students, the general public, and even startups.
Cornelius explained that the competition consisted of a proposal submission stage and a final round. Of the 41 proposals received, only 10 teams advanced to the hackathon stage. The ten teams then implemented their ideas and presented their results to a panel of judges. Of the 10 teams, three were students, while the rest were employed participants.
Fitur Unggulan Jepret
The Jepret app's key features were tested at the Jamkrindo Hackthon finals. These features include verification and review, accessible for MSMEs in the user's vicinity. Inputted photos are processed using image processing technology for data validation. There's also a Jamkrindo dashboard where Jamkrindo can view MSME data and approve loans submitted by MSMEs with complete data. Finally, there's a data analytics report where Jamkrindo and MSMEs can view all data analysis reports. The user incentive feature is also equally appealing, as it will undoubtedly benefit users significantly.

"We are very grateful for this achievement. We didn't expect to win first place, and we were even pessimistic at first," said Feby, one of the team members, in an interview with an ITB Public Relations reporter.
He also revealed that this valuable experience provided many new insights. For example, it turns out that many activities around us can still be optimized with technological advancements. Creative ideas are invaluable, and as the younger generation, we must continue to innovate to help solve problems around us by integrating technology.
Jamkrindo is a public company with a very large customer base. When granting credit, Jamkrindo must consider the prospects of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) based on the data collected. The larger the customer base, the greater the data collection process, both for verification and validation purposes.
To date, Jamkrindo still uses conventional methods to obtain data and verify MSMEs. This involves outsourcing personnel to visit MSMEs and manually enter data. Besides being expensive, this method sometimes results in incomplete and poorly verified data.
"Then our team introduced Jepret. Jepret is a solution that empowers Indonesians and leverages technological advancements to improve the effectiveness of MSME data fulfillment," explained Feby.
The benefit of leveraging the public is that MSMEs no longer need to manually update their data with Jamkrindo, and the data they obtain is more up-to-date. Furthermore, incentives given to users after each verification process encourage them to continue, making data updates even easier.
"Every time an MSME is verified, Jepret app users will receive an incentive," said Feby.
