From STEI ITB to Silicon Valley, Wenny Yustalim Builds Her Career as an AI Startup Founder
Bandung, stei.itb.ac.id — Alumni of the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), continue to expand their contributions to the global technology industry. One such alumna is Wenny Yustalim, a 2015 graduate of ITB’s Informatics Program, who is now pursuing technology entrepreneurship based on artificial intelligence (AI) in Silicon Valley, United States.
Wenny’s journey demonstrates how an education in informatics can open opportunities to contribute to technological development, both through global technology companies and independently developed innovations.
Before entering the startup world, Wenny gained professional experience as a software engineer at Google. For approximately four and a half years, she was involved in developing various technology products, including Google Pay and Google Photos. This experience became an important part of her professional journey and helped her understand the development of widely used software.
In 2024, Wenny took a new step by leaving Google to join an AI-based startup as a founding engineer. She then continued her work in the startup ecosystem, including through Yupp, before exploring the independent development of artificial intelligence products.
One of the innovations she developed is Pipedreamer, an AI-based solution designed to help users automatically complete various spreadsheet tasks. The technology demonstrates how artificial intelligence can be applied to streamline workflows and improve productivity.
Wenny’s journey in technology is closely connected to her academic background at STEI ITB. While studying Informatics, she explored various fields of computing, including algorithms and parallel computing. Her final project examined improvements to the performance of the betweenness centrality algorithm through a hybrid approach using OpenMP and CUDA.
Wenny’s career illustrates the contributions of STEI ITB alumni to the development of the international technology industry. From mastering computer science to developing AI products, her journey demonstrates the wide range of opportunities available to informatics graduates to take on roles as both technology developers and innovators.
Through education and the advancement of knowledge in electrical engineering and informatics, STEI ITB continues its efforts to prepare graduates with technical capabilities, adaptability, and a spirit of innovation to help address technological challenges at both the national and global levels.
Her journey demonstrates how education, professional experience, and a spirit of innovation can equip STEI ITB alumni to contribute to technological development at the global level.
