600 Students Attend Cloud Computing Training at ITB
BANDUNG, bandungkiwari – Around 600 students from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) participated in a technology training program called ITB Cloud Computing Boot Camp at the ITB East Hall in Bandung. Participants are expected to be able to utilize computer technology in the business world.
Head of the ITB Microelectronics Center and lecturer Electrical Engineering STEI, Trio Adiono He explained that the training aims to equip the next generation of IT graduates and educators with essential skills in cloud computing. He noted that the need for professional cloud computing workers continues to grow, with businesses of all sizes in Indonesia increasingly using cloud computing. Cloud computing is being used to transform businesses and differentiate services to consumers.
The training, supported by Amazon Web Services (AWS) Educate, took place on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. The two-day event leveraged content provided by AWS through AWS Educate, a global initiative that provides a compact set of learning content, resources, and AWS Promotional Credits for students and educators to gain the latest cloud computing skills.
"AWS' invaluable support in providing expertise and content for cloud-skilling will help ITB create and nurture global talent in cloud computing, and in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and the Internet-of-Things (IoT)," Trio said. He said that the ITB Microelectronics Center plays a key role in connecting Indonesian students with AWS technology, which is crucial in realizing ITB's vision of becoming an entrepreneurial university that develops a workforce essential for the digital economy.
In addition to being attended by ITB students and postgraduates, this event was also attended by surrounding campuses such as the Harapan Bangsa Institute of Technology (ITHB), Telkom University, and Unikom.
They will benefit from two days of intensive training, with nearly 30 hours of learning that combines instructor-led training and hands-on practice using AWS Cloud services.
The event will culminate with AWS GameDay, a cloud computing skills competition for participants to put their new learnings into practice as they solve a series of challenges related to real-life scenarios.
"We are proud to support the ITB Cloud Computing Bootcamp, which is designed to foster interest in using cloud computing for lifelong learning," said Vincent Quah, Regional Head for Education, APAC Public Sector, Amazon Web Services.
Quah said his team is committed to helping Indonesia's future generations develop their cloud computing knowledge and competencies through the global AWS Educate program, so they are prepared to meet the industry's growing demand for cloud computing expertise. "A future-ready cloud computing workforce is one of the pillars of driving the country's economic growth," he said.
Anisa Fatakh Sabila, a postgraduate student majoring in information security engineering, in her final year at ITB, expressed her delight at participating in the event. "I'm thrilled to be introduced to this valuable opportunity to learn about AWS Cloud technology," she said. "I'm interested in machine learning, big data, artificial intelligence, and anything related to cloud technology. This event will provide insights and expertise that will help me experiment with new ideas, which will form the basis of my future startup business," she continued. (Ananda Gabriel)
