The ITB Informatics Team Retains Its Title in the Cyber Security Competition

Cyber Jawara is a cybersecurity competition that identifies and fixes security vulnerabilities. Participants come from all walks of life, including students, university students, and even professionals from across the Indonesian National Army (Tentara Nasional Indonesia/TNI). Organized by Id-SIRTI/CC, the event took place from October 9-12, 2018, at the Padma Hotel in Legian, Bali.

In the preliminary round, 177 teams competed, with the top 10 teams advancing to the finals. However, the total number of finalists was 18, with 8 teams being invited. The team, named ‘JAV’, was an invited finalist because they had also won the same competition the previous year. They won this competition and represented Indonesia at the ASEAN level in the Cyber SEA Games, achieving first place. Furthermore, the team advanced to the international level and achieved 8th place in the SECCON event.

“Hopefully this year our team will be better than last year,” said Jason, one of the members of Team JAV. Jason also revealed that if they again managed to achieve first place at the ASEAN level in Bangkok, Thailand, then they would compete at the SECCON in Japan. “In preparation, we do routine training together online by doing practice questions and applying better techniques,” concluded Jason.

According to Jason, the competition, which lasted non-stop for eight hours, increased their knowledge in the field of informatics, and enabled them to apply the knowledge they had previously acquired.
