ITB's Dagominton Team Represents Indonesia at the 2015 ABU Robocon International Robot Contest

Sunday, June 14, 2015, the Bandung Institute of Technology Robotics Team once again achieved a long-awaited achievement by winning first place in the 2015 National Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI) in the KRAI category (Indonesian ABU Robot Contest) on June 11-14, 2015 in Yogyakarta. With this victory, ITB received the rotating trophy from the Indonesian government, the Sambhawana Pratimacala trophy.

With this victory, the ITB Robotics Unit officially became Indonesia's representative in the international robot competition ABU Robocon 2015. The robot team that will compete in ABU Robocon 2015 is the Dagominton Team consisting of Agung Nuza Dwi Putra (EL STEI 2012), Rendy Wandarosanza (EL STEI 2012), Eko Budi Satrio (MS FTMD 2012), Helwin Andrealin (MS FTMD 2012), Restu Ikhsanul FIkri (MS FTMD 2011), and Fanny Achmad Hindrarta (EL STEI 2012).

ABU Robocon
ABU (Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union) Robocon is an annual international robot competition participated by students from across the Asia-Pacific region. This competition was first held in 2002 in Tokyo, Japan. In the following years it was held in South Korea, Egypt, China, India, Vietnam, and other countries. In the 14th ABU Robocon in 2015, Indonesia was entrusted to be the host, which will be held on August 23, 2015 in Yogyakarta. ABU Robocon adopts a different theme every year. In 2015, ABU Robocon carried the theme of robominton, namely badminton playing robots, with reference to the real badminton rules plus a few adjustments.

When Champion Isn't Just a Trophy Award
In the 2015 Regional Level Indonesian Robot Contest held on April 23-25, 2015, ITB Robotics Unit sent 5 teams to participate in 5 categories, namely Dagominton Team in the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Indonesia Robot Contest (KRAI) category, Cakra Ganesha Team in the Indonesian Fire Extinguishing Robot Contest (KRPAI) Wheeled category, Viva La Ganesha Team in the Legged KRPAI category, Dago Hoogheschool Team in the Indonesian Football Robot Contest (KRSBI) category, Dago Concordia Team in the Indonesian Dance Robot Contest (KRSI) category. In the competition, the ITB team managed to show its best performance by winning 3 champion positions, namely First Place in the KRAI category, First Place in the KRSI category, First Place in the KRSBI category. In addition to these three achievements, the ITB team also received 2 awards, namely the Robot with the Best Algorithm in the Wheeled KRPAI category and the Robot with the Best Dance award in the KRSI category. This success makes ITB the only university team that can qualify its entire team to the National Level KRI.

In a very tight competition at the National KRI event, the ITB Robotics Team ultimately defeated the Dagominton team to qualify for the KRAI category. With a spirit of togetherness and a winning mentality, all teams within the ITB Robotics Unit fully supported the Dagominton team in their quest for victory.

Dagominton demonstrated its top performance in every match. With this year's unique theme of Robominton, the ITB team defeated all opponents in every match, maintaining an undefeated record. From the preliminary round to the final, Dagominton remained confident and composed in facing all its opponents.

This marks a new milestone, born after years of dormancy, and finally reawakened this year. With success in each match, the Dagominton team will continue to advance to a much tougher challenge: representing Indonesia in the international competition, ABU Robocon. Hopefully, Dagominton can bring glory to Indonesia's name worldwide.
