ITB's Aksantara Team Wins the Tübitak UAV Competition in Türkiye
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Students from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) have once again achieved international success. ITB Aksantara Team successfully won second place in the Fixed Wing Competition category at the Tübitak UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) Competition which took place at Istanbul Grand Airport, Türkiye on September 20-23, 2018.
In the competition, the Aksantara ITB team sent two teams for two different categories: Fixed Wing and Rotary Wing. The Fixed Wing team, named Gana Raksaka, consisted of six students: Dewa Mahardika (Telecomm Engineering 2017), M. Ilman Nuryakusumah (Aeronautical Engineering 2015), Raynald Masli (Aeronautical Engineering 2015), Edbert Ongko (Telecommunication Engineering 2015), Rama Rahardi (Telecommunication Engineering 2017), and Dimas Apeco Putera (Physics Engineering 2016).
Meanwhile, the Rotary Wing Team named Traya Vata consists of 7 students, namely Rhenetou Virginio (Electrical Engineering 2015), Aji Sumbaga (Physics Engineering 2015), Muhammad Hilmi (Telecommunications Engineering 2015), M. Falih Akbar (Electrical Engineering 2016), Dimas Yoga Pratama (Electrical Engineering 2015), Alif Ijlal Wafi (Informatics Engineering 2015), and Akbar Aji Baskoro (Entrepreneurship 2016).
Dewa Mahardika, a member of the Fixed Wing team, explained that in this competition, each participant must complete three missions with each aircraft. The first mission involves flying manually along a predetermined path and then performing a 360-degree spin.
The second mission involved flying autonomously while carrying a ball and dropping it into a designated box. The final mission involved flying autonomously from takeoff to landing, with precision landing on a predetermined line. The Aksantara ITB team excelled with its fixed-wing aircraft, successfully completing all three missions.
During the competition, the Aksantara team had to go through two selection stages: submitting a conceptual design and submitting a detailed design. The conceptual design led to a report explaining the aircraft's intended design. After passing this stage, finalists had to proceed to the next stage, which required submitting a detailed design report, outlining the aircraft's construction plans down to the smallest detail.
Throughout the entire process, from design to production to the finals in Turkey, each team was mentored by a lecturer. The Fixed Wing team was mentored by Dr. Ing. Mochammad Agoes Moelyadi, a lecturer specializing in Flight Physics at the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD), while the Rotary Wing team was mentored by Dr. Widyawardana Adiprawita ST, MT with expertise groups Biomedical Engineering at the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI).
"We were not only guided before the competition, but we also received motivational words that made us confident that we could win second place," Dewa concluded.
He also advised the students not to hesitate in the process. Even if they encounter obstacles along the way, face them head on without giving up. "We almost gave up several times, but in the end, we made it. Don't forget that the X factor is always there; God is the one who determines," Dewa advised.
