Electrical Engineering and Informatics Doctoral Program Socialization: S3 Graduates are Highly Needed in Research

On October 29, 2021, the Electrical Engineering and Informatics Engineering Doctoral Program Socialization program was held at STEI ITB. The speaker was Dr. Ir. Umar Khayam, ST. MT. IPM., Head of the Electrical Engineering and Informatics Doctoral Program.

The event was held online via Zoom. The public was welcome to attend, and participants included prospective doctoral students in electrical engineering and informatics engineering and those interested in the program.

Participants received a detailed explanation of the doctoral program in electrical engineering and informatics, the research opportunities available, and the research groups that oversee this research.

The STEI Doctor of Science study program aims to produce graduates who are independent professional researchers in Electrical Engineering and Informatics or related fields; able to innovate products/technologies in their workplaces for those working in the industrial sector; and able to guide student research at all levels of higher education for those choosing a career in academia. Furthermore, graduates are expected to demonstrate leadership skills in research activities or in professional careers in their respective fields.

Starting in 1993 as a doctoral program in electrical engineering at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, in 2006 the program merged with the informatics department under the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI) ITB. Currently, the doctoral program in electrical engineering and informatics has been accredited A by BAN-PT.

There are nine research areas supported by the Electrical Engineering and Informatics Doctoral Study Program, namely nine expertise groups at STEI ITB:

  • Power Engineering Research Groups
  • Telecomm Engineering
  • Electronics Research Groups
  • Control Systems and Computer
  • Computer Engineering
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Informatics
  • Information Technology
  • Knowledge & Software Engineering

Currently, there are 202 doctoral students in the STEI ITB program, supported by 24 promoters and co-promoters. With the available facilities and resources, research can be conducted optimally.
