Samsung Mobile India Delivers Android Public Lecture at STEI ITB
On Friday (September 23, 2011), Samsung Mobile India visited the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI) at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). This visit was part of a collaboration initiative between Samsung Mobile and ITB. A public lecture and student selection for participation in the Samsung Mobile development project were the main events of the visit.
One of the agenda items on the visit, led by Mr. Ashish Gupta, Senior Development Manager of Samsung Electronics India, was a short public lecture on the Android and BADA platforms. Android is one of the most widely used mobile phone platforms today. Android is the mobile phone platform with the largest market share, accounting for approximately 33%.
The widespread use of Android-powered mobile phones is attributed to the availability of numerous free, high-quality applications. With applications developed using the Java programming language, Android has become a favorite target for programmers creating mobile applications.
BADA is a new mobile phone platform developed by Samsung Mobile. Unlike Android, which uses Java, applications for the BADA platform are developed using the C++ programming language.
Initiation of Cooperation with ITB
In addition to the public lecture, a selection process for participation in the Samsung Mobile development project was also held. Ten students who passed the selection process had the opportunity to develop applications on the Android and BADA platforms and receive handsets to support the development process.
Senior Development Manager of Samsung Electronic India, Mr. Ashish Gupta, stated that this project is an initiatory step in establishing cooperation with ITB. Later, if this project runs well, Samsung will collaborate with projects that are bigger than the project. When asked why he chose ITB, he explained that based on research results by RnD Samsung Mobile located in Jakarta, ITB is the best university in Indonesia with quality students. "We are looking for people who are dedicated and have high quality," added Mr. Ashish Gupta at the end of the interview.
