Introduction to Student Cooperative Design Engineering TPB STEI-FMIPA

In the framework of the major assignment of the Introduction to Design Engineering course II for Cluster 1 (FMIPA and STEI), STEI in collaboration with LTPB held a robot competition between TPB STEI and FMIPA students on May 21-22, 2014 in the TVST and Oktagon buildings. In this competition, students were asked to create a robot using the Lego Mindstorm EV3 Education platform to complete a certain mission. This competition activity was divided into two main categories, namely the applicative robot category and the transporter robot category.

The application robot category is a competition category that gives students the freedom to design a robot with the theme "Bandung, the city of pigs". The theme of this competition was chosen with the aim of encouraging students to generate ideas and design a robot to solve the waste problem in Bandung and to educate the public that waste is a major problem that must be resolved immediately together. Meanwhile, the robot transporter category was held with a different presentation. In this competition, two teams will compete and try to move four colored ping pong balls to a predetermined location. The winner of the robot transporter competition is the team that successfully completes the mission in the fastest time and achieves the highest score.

Although many of the TPB students were experiencing the difficulty of building a robot for the first time, they still participated in this activity with enthusiasm and joy. This was demonstrated by the lively event during the final competition in the application and transporter categories. Students also said that through this activity, they were able to hone their technical skills and increase their competitive spirit. They also hoped that this activity would make students more aware of their surroundings and be able to provide various solutions to environmental and social problems with the knowledge they possess.
