Determining Ganesha's Heir Through Ganesha Best Student ITB 2012

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Twelve students from all faculties at ITB competed in the Ganesha Best Student (Ganbest) 2012 to win the Ganesha Prize. Ganbest is the culmination of a series of outstanding student elections held by ITB every year. Held in the East Hall of ITB, the event, held on Saturday (12/05/12), was organized and supported by the ITB Student Organization (LK) as a means of student competition to increase the spirit of achievement.

The event opened with remarks from the Chairman of the Ganbest Committee, Ahmad Bismillahi Normansyah (Astronomy 2010) and the Head of the Student Affairs Organization, Brian Yuliarto, Ph.D. In his opening remarks, Brian stated that the selection of outstanding students is a real solution to the problems in Indonesia. "ITB can contribute by producing competitive and superior human resources through this selection of outstanding students," he said.

The outstanding students competing in Ganbest weren't selected through a short process. They had to go through a selection process, which began two months prior, followed by a rigorous selection process for faculty representatives, led by the heads of their respective study programs. "The selected outstanding students are those who are actively involved in student activities, while still excelling academically and possessing strong character," said Bismillahi.

At Ganbest, outstanding students representing these faculties will then present their written work in English to a panel of judges and answer questions. The judges will include Dr. Ciptati, Dr. Tri Desmana, Djaji Satira, M.Si., and Dr. Sandro Mihradi from LK ITB, Ferry Iskandar, and several other judges.

The main criteria for selecting Ganbest are fluency in English, presentation techniques which include personality and character assessment, and curriculum vitae and written content. Through the jury's assessment, Hendra (Chemical Engineering 2008), a representative from FTI, emerged as the winner of Ganbest ITB 2012. In his written work, the winner of the title Honorable Mention At the Harvard National Model United Nations 2012 a few months ago, the topic was "Improving Indonesian Students' Role in Poverty Alleviation." With Hendra's selection as Ganbest ITB 2012, he will be ITB's representative for the national-level outstanding student selection in August.
