ITB Students Represent Indonesia in the Huawei ICT Competition

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Three students from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) from the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI), namely Samuel Christian Coe (Electrical Engineering 2015), Bagas Purwa Sentika (Telecomm Engineering 2016) and Michael Sihombing (Telecommunication Engineering 2015) succeeded in bringing honor to ITB at the national level at the Huawei ICT Competition 2018-2019 which was held at the JS Luwansa Hotel, Jl. HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta on December 17-18, 2018.
Carrying the theme “Connection & Glory & Future”, the Huawei ICT Competition 2018-2019 aims to provide a platform for students to compete, communicate, and develop each other’s talents in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and reduce the gap between what they learn in college and what they will do in the world of work.
In the competition which was participated by 16 teams from 8 universities, namely Bandung Institute of Technology, Telkom University, Multimedia Nusantara University, Gadjah Mada University, University of Indonesia, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Padjadjaran University, and Diponegoro University, students were tested in the field of networking to configure networking tools between areas so they can communicate with each other, with cables/wirelessly, and the security configuration of the network.
All participants are required to design and configure the network device provided. Accuracy of the configuration and design carries a specific score. The winner will be the team with the highest score for accuracy and configuration of the network device design.
Each university sent two teams, including ITB. The teams were formed based on the results of a prior university-level selection process.
Six people who passed the theory and practical tests at university level were formed into two teams, each consisting of 3 people.
Preparation of the Champion.
Of course, both teams had struggled and gone through thorough preparation. When an ITB News Agency reporter interviewed Samuel, one of the team members, on Thursday (December 20, 2018), he explained that both teams only had about three weeks to prepare.
With the spirit of intensive training and strong ambition, finally the Samuel, Bagas and Michael Team succeeded in qualifying to bring ITB's name to the national level and represent Indonesia at the regional level (Southeast Asia and Australia Region) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in March 2019.
Furthermore, if they qualify at the regional level, the three of them will proceed to the final stage in Shenzhen, China in April 2019. "I am very grateful to be the national champion of Huawei ICT. As for the event itself, it was fun and tense because there was a lot to configure in a short time," said Samuel.
