After completing the New Student Admissions (PMB) process, a new, challenging phase of life awaits students. To inspire enthusiasm and provide early career orientation, the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI) ITB presented one of its alumni, Immanuel Deo, in a session. sharing at the PMB event, August 16, 2021.
Brief Profile of the Resource Person
Immanuel Deo is an Electrical Power Engineering graduate who is currently pursuing a career in the oil and gas industry. His studies were marked by diverse achievements and rich organizational experience.
He has completed internships at various energy companies, worked as a laboratory assistant, and led divisions in several student units. Outside of campus, he founded a leadership organization, represented ITB in national and international competitions, and is active in... volunteer in the Bandung community.
At his graduation in 2019, he had the honor of delivering the valedictory speech to the other graduates.

With this experience, Deo shared "Five Stages of Improving Self-Quality" with new students as roadmap for optimal personal growth:
- The Beginning:
The initial stage to get to know yourself deeply through the concept of IKIGAI, namely passion, mission, vocation, And professionThis process can be done through 16 Personalities, OCEAN, or DISC Assessment, and is supported by the method journaling or meditation. - The Arising:
The implementation stage of the process of knowing oneself and self-knowledge becomes passion. Students need to validate their interests by looking for references from books, podcast, feedback from others, or looking for role model. Metode cross-reference this will help build mindset practice And growth. - The Giving:
After knowing themselves and being able to direct their abilities and interests, students need to provide benefits to others through activities. volunteer. Through this process, students can test skill, personality, maupun cross-reference experiences by dedicating oneself to others who are not directly connected to one's personal interests. This is useful for getting valuable feedback in evaluating oneself to become better (listening from indirect involvement). - The Sustaining:
This stage is an intensive development process to train students to create two-way learning spaces. Students are encouraged to become individuals who implement lifelong learning as a mentor, while creating a space for dialogue with mentee. This two-way learning space will be sustainable if it is interspersed with consistent hobby activities (passion into hobby). - The Breakthrough:
The peak of the process of improving self-quality is when students become humans who are "complete" with themselves and are totally willing to provide real benefits to society (community developmentAt this stage, students are expected to be able to become program pioneers, creating sustainable programs for the community, both in their neighborhood, nationally, and globally.
"Instead of making personal achievement the sole measure of success, focus on real contributions to others. Take advantage of every moment to develop yourself and build as wide a network as possible to expand the scope of your service."
That was Deo's message in his quote. At the end of the session, Deo reiterated the importance of each individual recognizing their strengths and weaknesses so they can enjoy and benefit from their studies.
