Public Lecture on Renewable Energy Opens Opportunities for Educational and Research Integration between STEI ITB and UNRAM

Bandung, stei.itb.ac.id — The Head of the Master’s Program in Electrical Engineering at the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Institut Teknologi Bandung (STEI ITB), Ir. Burhanuddin Halimi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., served as a speaker at a public lecture titled “Indonesia’s New and Renewable Energy Mix: Potential and Challenges,” held at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Mataram (UNRAM), on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

The public lecture explored Indonesia’s potential in new and renewable energy, along with the challenges associated with its development and utilization. In addition to providing insights into developments in the energy sector, the event also opened discussions on potential research initiatives that could contribute to strengthening Indonesia’s sustainable energy ecosystem.

During the event, Burhanuddin also introduced and discussed opportunities to develop the ITB Bachelor’s–Master’s Collaboration Pathway (JKSM) between the Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering at UNRAM and the Master’s Program in Electrical Engineering at STEI ITB. The program has the potential to provide students with a more integrated academic pathway while strengthening academic collaboration between the two institutions.

“We hope that UNRAM students will have the opportunity to participate in an integrated bachelor’s–master’s program, enabling them to complete their bachelor’s degree at UNRAM and continue their master’s studies in the Electrical Engineering Program at ITB within five years,” said Burhanuddin.

Through this scheme, education at the undergraduate and master’s levels is expected to become more closely connected and academically continuous. Students may have the opportunity to receive academic supervision from faculty members of both institutions, including during their undergraduate final projects and master’s thesis research.

At the undergraduate level, final-year research may involve a UNRAM faculty member as the primary supervisor and a STEI ITB faculty member as the co-supervisor. Subsequently, when students pursue their master’s degree at STEI ITB, the supervision scheme may continue with a STEI ITB faculty member serving as the primary supervisor and a UNRAM faculty member as the co-supervisor.

This collaboration is expected not only to support a more efficient and continuous academic pathway for students, but also to create opportunities for joint research, collaborative scientific publications, and the development of broader and more sustainable research initiatives.
