Hoome Studio represents Indonesia in Imagine Cup 2016

They will represent Indonesia for the category InnovationThe Hoome Studio team created a smartphone app called Hoome to detect users through wearable device sensors, such as smartwatches, smartbands, and others.

"The human body contains electrons that can change according to mood and stress levels. Sensors installed in our bodies can detect this," said Dody Qori Utama, a doctoral student in the field of Biomedical Engineering STEI ITB during the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2016 Indonesia Final event.

Dody and the other 2016 Imagine Cup winners are scheduled to compete with 33 other teams from Asia Pacific to win tickets to the finals in the United States.

How Does Hoome Work?
Hoome collects data from wearable Whatever the user is using, from here we can then conclude the user's condition, stress level, mood or health condition.

In addition, Hoome can also be used to control electronic devices such as lights, air conditioners, radios, music players, air fresheners, and TVs. "There are three parts: wearable devices, applications, and Windows Azure. The wearable device functions as a sensor, then connects to the application and Windows Azure as a database," Dody explained. In order to connect to various electronic devices, Dody and his team utilize a Bluetooth connection.

So what about household devices that don't have Bluetooth modules, like lights or air fresheners? The solution is to use an AC outlet connected to an Arduino as the controller. That way, any device can be plugged into the outlet and can "join" the smarthome platform he designed.

Dody admitted to collecting data on how each electronic device works and the habits of each user since 2010. "I've been working in biomedicine since 2010 and my job is monitoring biosignals. I capture human signals along with the conditions of their algorithms," Dody said.

Currently, Hoome itself has been implemented in a hospital in Bandung. "Someone asked us to help design a room with Hoome so that birthing patients can be more comfortable because our platform can adjust the type of music, AC temperature, and so on," Dody concluded.
