PT Telkom's Support for the Radio and Microwave Telecommunications Laboratory
The Radio and Microwave Telecommunications Laboratory (LTRGM) is one of the laboratories at STEI-ITB that supports educational and research activities for STEI students and lecturers, particularly in the Telecommunications Engineering Study Program. Until 2015, the laboratory equipment available at LTRGM was inadequate and in dire need of updating. Some equipment was even no longer functional, leading to the cancellation of laboratory activities, such as the antenna laboratory.
On July 24, 2016, at the ITB West Hall, coinciding with the IAE-ITB Halal Bihalal event, Telkom handed over 800 million Rupiah in support for the renewal of practical equipment for LTRGM. The renewed practical equipment consisted of an oscilloscope, antenna practical kit, spectrum analyzer, signal generator, desktop PC, and 1.2 GHz VNA.
The handover of support was carried out by Telkom's Director of Digital and Strategic Portfolio, Ir. Indra Utoyo M.Sc. to representatives of LTRGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Adit Kurniawan, M.Eng. and Dean of STEI, Dr. Ir. Jaka Sembiring. "Telkom has many programs that support the world of education," said Mr. Indra Utoyo.
In the same place, several students and alumni were very enthusiastic to see the upgrade of the lab equipment. "Previously, when we did the antenna lab, we had to use a protractor to take data on the antenna characteristics from 0⁰ to 360⁰," said M. Ammar Wibisono, a 2008 Telecommunication Engineering Alumni. "The existing PC still uses tube technology, if you want to turn it on, you have to tap it first," said Laras, a 2013 student. "When writing lab reports, inaccuracies due to old devices are often used as an excuse," said Wervyan, a 2008 Telecommunication Engineering Alumni.
This support for updating the lab equipment demonstrates Telkom's commitment to education. Hopefully, with this support, STEI graduates will be more competent and better prepared to meet the needs of the academic and industrial worlds. STEI expresses its deepest gratitude and appreciation to Telkom for this support.
