Ice Barble Team: First Place in the Election Application Competition
The Ice Barble team consists of Genta Indra Winata, James Jaya, Kelvin Valensius, Mochammad Dikra Prasetya (Informatics Engineering student STEI-ITB) became the winner in the Code for Vote 2.0 election application competition. In the competition held at FX Sudirman (14/6), Jakarta, Ice Barble with “Pemiluman” outperformed 107 other election teams and applications.
Pemiluman is an application that provides easy and engaging information about the presidential and vice-presidential candidates. The profiles, track records, visions, missions, programs, and promises of Prabowo-Hatta and Jokowi-JK are combined in one touchscreen information package, eliminating the need to search through multiple sources.
The election also includes election day reminders, social media channels, and a comment section. This allows app users to share existing and updated information with each other, while also reminding them to visit TPS on July 9, 2014.
"We created this app because we felt it was difficult for people like us to get information about presidential candidates. Even if we did get information, we wouldn't know if it was true or not," said Genta, a representative from Ice Barble.
Ice Barble won the grand prize of 12 million rupiah in cash. The Bandung-based team also received a trip to Singapore and a visit to Google's Singapore office. The students from the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at the Bandung Institute of Technology hope their achievement will benefit voters.
General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyansyah stated that this competition reflects the election's impact on more than just the political, legal, and social communities. Ferry, who also served as a judge for Code for Vote 2.0, stated that as a token of appreciation and to meet the needs of voters, KPU will use the Code for Vote 2.0 app to promote the vote count on July 9.
