STEI ITB Introduces the First Quantum Computer in Indonesia
Bandung, stei.itb.ac.id – The School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI) ITB is further strengthening its position on the technological innovation map in Indonesia by presenting... Komputer Kuantum for research and education. Quantum computers equipped with 2 qubit This makes it the first and only one in Indonesia at this time.
Developed by the company SpinQ, the Gemini Pro Quantum Computer utilizes technology Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) to achieve exceptional performance in quantum information processing. This success confirms STEI ITB as an educational institution that focuses not only on education but also on the exploration and development of cutting-edge technology.
On December 14, 2023, the event was held launching officially at STEI ITB, along with the handover of the quantum computer from the Dean of STEI, ., to the Head of the Quantum Technology Laboratory, Prof. Andriyan B. SuksmonoThis event also marks an important step in increasing research and development capacity in quantum technology in Indonesia.
In his speech, . stated, "The presence of the Gemini Quantum Computer at STEI ITB is a major step in realizing our vision of becoming a leading center for research and innovation in the technology sector. This is also STEI ITB's contribution to supporting the growth of the quantum technology ecosystem in Indonesia."
Prof. Andriyan as Head Quantum Technology Lab explained that this quantum computer is very useful for education and research, "This year STEI opened a Quantum Information class, which initially contained lectures on quantum theory and programming using a simulator. The presence of quantum computer hardware will have a positive impact on students; that quantum computers really exist and can work as taught in lectures. This Quantum Computer will be an important tool for students and researchers to explore the quantum world, opening up new opportunities in understanding and applying quantum concepts in research and industry. ”
Researchers at Quantum Technology LabRahmat Mulyawan added, "The presence of this quantum computer brings us one step closer to our goal of building our own quantum computer. A technology becomes recorded in history not only because of its capabilities at the time it was created, but more so because of the opportunities it opens up. The procurement of this quantum computer may be a small step for STEI, but it represents a giant leap for the development of quantum technology in Indonesia."
With this step, STEI ITB provides a positive boost for the development of quantum technology in Indonesia, and is also expected to open the door to deeper research and broader collaboration in the world of science and technology.
