Biomedical Engineering Seminar
The Biomedical Engineering Research Group of STEI ITB, on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, held a Biomedical Engineering Seminar with the theme "Introduction to Biomedical Engineering & Professional Organizations, Anatomy & Physiology for Engineering Graduates, Latest Developments in Medical Image Processing". The seminar, held in the seminar room of the Biomedical Engineering Research Group of STEI ITB, Achmad Bakrie Building, 3rd Floor, was presented by Prof. Dr. Soegijardjo Soegijoko, Prof. Dr. Tati Latifah and Dr. dr. Yoke S. Irawan.
The first session was delivered by Prof. Soegijardjo with the theme "Introduction to Biomedical Engineering & Professional Organizations." He explained that Biomedical Engineering is a multidisciplinary field. Biomedical engineering can process medical information and improve public health care. Biomedical engineering can also be applied to medical procedures.
The second session was presented by Dr. Yoke S. Irawan with the theme "Human Anatomy & Physiology for Engineering Graduates." He explained the definition of anatomy. Anatomy is a branch of biology and medicine that is the consideration of the structure of living things. It is a general term that includes human anatomy, animal anatomy (zootomy), and plant anatomy (phytotomy). Anatomy also studies the internal and external structure of the body and the physical relationships between its parts.
The final session of the seminar was delivered by Prof. Dr. Tati Latifah with the theme "Latest Developments in Image Processing". She explained about imaging technology. By using this technology, we can see objects that are invisible to the naked eye. Things related to imaging technology are x-ray & CT (ionization), MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), PET/SPECT (emission), ultrasound (sound waves).
The seminar, which was attended by around 20 students, ended with a question and answer session.
