Seminar Dr. Ronald Gene Ward

Seminar Dr. Ronald Gene Ward

In the October 2011 Final Project and Thesis poster exhibition and competition, STEI presented a different view from the usual. This event was the first to be held involving all Study Programs at STEI after previously only being attended by the Informatics Engineering and Information Systems and Technology study programs. Usually this event was only filled with ordinary poster exhibitions and several demonstrations from students regarding their Final Projects and Theses, but in this event, the different view was that this event was also filled with a seminar on "The Role of Leadership for Software Engineers in Technology Development" presented by Dr. Ronald Gene Ward.

In his seminar, he explained that a software engineer needs leadership skills to be able to make business contributions to their industry. Therefore, software engineers must maintain an open mind, meaning they always listen to input and criticism from all parties, including customers and marketing staff.

Besides an open mind, another necessary skill is the ability to work in a team, especially in international teams, which includes communication skills, both verbally and in chat. Another skill is written communication. Essentially, software engineers must be able to convey their ideas and knowledge well so that they can be understood by both technical and non-technical parties.
