Robocool 2011

The Electrical Engineering Student Association – STEI ITB, on Sunday, March 20, 2011, held an event entitled “Robocool 2011” at the East Campus Center. “Robocool 2011” is an activity to introduce robot technology for high school students. This event aims to foster high school students’ interest in robotics and improve their competence in the application of practical electronic basics, especially in the field of robotics. Robotics is a form of system automation application that makes human work easier; introducing robotics to high school students is expected to improve the nation’s competence in the field of robotics technology in the future.

This activity consists of a brief explanation of the general meaning of robots and basic knowledge of practical electronics that will be applied to create a simple line-follower robot that will be assembled in the next activity. In addition to aiming to provide basic knowledge about making simple robots, this first activity is intended to increase admiration for robots and motivate them to build robots, as well as facilitate the assembly of simple robots in the next activity.

The assembly process is divided into three sessions: assembling the gearbox, soldering the sensor components, and soldering the processor components. Finally, the three components are assembled into a line-following robot.

Once the robots were completed, each team was allowed to test them on the prepared track. If the robots couldn't follow the lines, they were checked again. By the end of the event, almost all teams had successfully completed their robots.
