Pita Frekuensi 4.9G Jadi Masalah

head of the study program Master Program in Electrical Engineering Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) Ian Yosef M. Edward highlights the use of unlicensed frequencies in the 5,150-5,350 MHz and 5,725-5,825 MHz ranges for 4.9G or LTE Advanced Pro technology.

He believes that this frequency is prone to interference with existing WLAN networks, thus making it impossible to guarantee the quality of services provided to customers.

"Unlike 5G, which requires a license, service quality can be guaranteed because each operator has its own frequency. It's too expensive for an operator to have poor service quality simply because of interference," Ian told the Global Times. Bisnis.

Ian added that the frequency conditions that are prone to interference, according to him, are one of the reasons operators and vendors are rethinking commercializing tools or networks with LTE Advanced Pro technology.

Interference is the interaction or disturbance between radio waves at a certain point because they are close to each other or even collide.

Previously, the government had issued class and device permits for 4G LTE Advanced Pro (LAA) technology, through the Minister of Communication and Information's PM no. 1/2019 concerning the Use of Radio Frequency Spectrum Based on Class Permits and Regulation of the Director General of Postal and Information Technology Resources and Equipment (Perdirjen SDPPI) no. 5/2019 concerning Technical Requirements for Mobile Telecommunication Tools and/or Devices issued on June 13, 2019.

4G LTE Advanced Pro uses License Assisted Access (LAA) technology. In marketing terms, 4G LTE Advanced Pro is known as 4.9G, a technology one level below 5G. This technology will utilize unlicensed frequencies in the 5,150–5,350 MHz and 5,725–5,825 MHz frequency ranges.

The presence of 4G LTE Advanced Pro was initially expected to meet the public's need for fast internet, while waiting for the development of 5G technology which is currently still awaiting the 4th World Radio Communication Conference (WRC) to be held in October - November 2019.

However, unfortunately, in practice this technology has received little attention from cellular operators and telecommunications equipment vendors.
