Strengthening the Electricity Research Ecosystem, PLN's Research and Development Center Discusses Potential Collaboration with the ITB School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics

Bandung, stei.itb.ac.id — In an effort to strengthen research synergy in the electricity sector, the Research and Development Center of PT PLN (Persero) visited the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI) of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) on Thursday, February 26. This visit served as an initial discussion forum to explore the potential for strategic research collaborations relevant to the national energy transition agenda.

The meeting took place with lecturers from the Electrical Power Engineering Research Group and was also attended by the Dean of STEI ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tutun Juhana, S.T., M.T.. The discussion covered various strategic issues, including the development of low-carbon power generation technology, decarbonization options for existing power plants, carbon capture and emission reduction technology, innovation of more environmentally friendly high-voltage system equipment, and strengthening the stability and digitalization of the electricity distribution system.

In addition, the two parties also discussed opportunities for developing power conversion technology and smart grid supporting infrastructure as part of the transformation of the electricity system to be more flexible and adaptive to the integration of renewable energy.

This visit is expected to be the first step in building alignment between industrial research needs and STEI ITB's academic capacity. Going forward, potential collaborations will be pursued through mapping priority topics and establishing collaborative schemes that will enable the development of research-based solutions to support Indonesia's energy transformation.
