Dr. Ayu Purwarianti Collaborative Research won Project Excellence in the Bernd Rode Award 2017

The research project conducted by Dr. Ayu Purwarianti, a lecturer in Informatics Engineering at STEI and partner(s), won an award from ASEA-UNINET in the Project Excellence category, Bernd Rode Award Laureates 2017. The project, entitled “StrikeSensor – Detecting Labor Strikes in Indonesia using Twitter Data”, is a research project that uses social media to detect things that happen in society, in this case labor demonstrations.

The Bernd Rode Award recognizes outstanding collaborations in science and higher education between European and Southeast Asian universities within the ASEA-UNINET framework. The award is presented every eighteen months in three different categories.

ASEA-UNINET itself is a university network that brings together universities from Europe and Southeast Asia for collaborative research and education. Founded in 1994, ASEA-UNINET currently comprises 80 universities in 20 different countries.

Indonesia needs a great deal of creative or innovative work that is recognized at the regional, national, and international levels. Lecturers are required to constantly innovate, as knowledge is always evolving.

Hopefully, more innovations will emerge from lecturers in Indonesia, especially STEI.
