Muhammad Hilmi Asyrofi, Informatics Graduate Who Memorized the Quran and Achieved in the Field of Robotics
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Muhammad Hilmi Asyrofi, student Informatics EngineeringThe 2015 class of the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI) will graduate at ITB's Third Graduation Ceremony for the 2018/2019 Academic Year at the Sabuga Building on Saturday, July 20, 2019. This graduation is special for Hilmi, who has memorized several chapters of the Quran and earned cum laude honors, and has achieved various achievements during his time as a student.
Hilmi made the most of his four years of studying at ITB, actively participating in various activities to explore his abilities. He believes that college is a time to discover his true self. One of his favorite fields is robotics. Therefore, he joined the ITB Robotics Unit (URO ITB). "When I was little, I wanted to buy a remote control toy car, but my parents wouldn't buy it for me. Finally, when I entered ITB, I wanted to join the ITB Robotics Unit so I could make my own robot. Finally, my wish came true, my team and I were able to make a soccer robot, because I also like soccer," said Hilmi.
Armed with his passion for robotics, the robots created by Hilmi and his team have won several national robot competitions. In 2017, the Wheeled Soccer Robot won 4th place in the regional competition, and in 2018, it was named the robot with the best strategy. Furthermore, Hilmi has also won a competition held by the Ministry of Agriculture by creating an IoT-based tool with precision farming technology.
Beyond his passion for robotics, Hilmi also enjoys deepening his religious knowledge. This student from Gunungkidul was raised in an Islamic boarding school from school. During his college years, Hilmi lived at the Al-Falah Islamic boarding school. He achieved success in the Musabaqah Hafdzil Quran (Quran Recitation Competition) branch of the Quran Olympiad. Hilmi has memorized seven chapters (juz) and several other surahs. He usually memorizes the Quran by repeating the recitation for an hour without interruption.
Hilmi, who is also a Young Imam Salman, had the opportunity to visit Amsterdam, the Netherlands after being selected to represent Indonesia as the 2018 Industrial Revolution Ambassador. He was one of three Indonesian students who participated in the 2018 Artificial Intelligence Expo Europe. He was also invited to the Korea Advance Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), a university in South Korea.
"I usually balance my time based on priorities. If there's a task that can be postponed, I'll do it after Quran study. I usually finish what I like first, because I'm not a multitasker," said Hilmi.
According to Hilmi, all challenges must be overcome; obstacles or challenges are simply a matter of mindset. During his four years of college, Hilmi has had many opportunities and chances to develop himself, both on and off campus. The student, who developed an image-processing-based crescent moon detection system for his final project, also stated that there is actually a lot to be gained at ITB, depending on how you utilize it.
Hilmi plans to pursue a master's degree at KAIST, and while awaiting acceptance, he will work on and develop the startup he is currently developing. He will also focus on studying Quran recitations to strengthen his memorization. "You don't need to be a superhero who can do anything; just focus on what you love," Hilmi advised.
