MIC – ITB Code Camp 2011 “Siap Lahirkan Ratusan Applikasi Mobile”
MIC-ITB in collaboration with Microsoft Indonesia, Navcore Nextology and Nokia targets to create approximately 200 global standard mobile applications.
The MIC – ITB Code Camp 2011 workshop is part of the three-day Digital Media Forum series held at ITB. The workshop aims to encourage the development of game applications rooted in local culture. "This workshop provides engaging, practical learning about the latest mobile technology developments," said Ary Setijadi Prihatmanto, MIC – ITB Manager, at the ITB Digital Media Festival on Wednesday, November 23, 2011.
Hundreds of applications produced from this workshop are targeted to be able to penetrate the Windows Phone Marketplace which has been growing rapidly recently, especially after the arrival of the Windows Phone 7 Mango Series. Based on the latest research results from Appcelerator and IDC, developers of these applications are more interested in developing mobile applications based on Windows Phone than previous operating systems. As many as 38 percent of the 2,160 application developers worldwide surveyed expressed interest in developing applications on Windows Phone.
The growing market demand for the latest apps and games presents an opportunity for developers, including novice developers, to introduce their products to the market. In this workshop, participants were taught cost-efficient app and game development methods utilizing cloud computing. "Participants were also taught how to sell the apps and games they created," he said. Through this workshop, it is hoped that the number of apps and games produced by Indonesian developers will increase.
Currently, the number of mobile applications is still around hundreds of thousands and is expected to continue to grow along with the rise of smartphone products. Apple with the App Store introduced since 2008 has collected 500 thousand applications until October 2011. Meanwhile, the Android Market released in 2008 has collected 300 thousand applications. Windows Phone Marketplace introduced in October 2010 has collected more than 40 thousand applications from 10 thousand developer companies worldwide. "Therefore, the hope is that many applications can be useful for Indonesia because useful applications will definitely be used by friends and many people," said Upik Sudarta as Development Manager representing Nokia.
