Enhancing the Role of ICT in Indonesia's Economic Development

The Telecommunication Engineering Study Program of STEI ITB, on Thursday, May 5, 2011, held a Telecommunications Selected Chapter lecture at the STEI ITB Meeting Room, Achmad Bakrie Building, 2nd floor, on Thursday, May 5, 2011, with the theme "Increasing the Role of ICT in the Expansion and Acceleration of Indonesia's Economic Development".

The lecture, which was attended by students of the Electrical Engineering Study Program, was delivered by Eddy Satriya, Deputy Assistant for ICT and Utility at the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

He explained that economic growth has not been commensurate with the well-being of the people. ICT has not received significant government attention. Indonesia's economic growth has been quite good compared to other countries.

To achieve higher growth, infrastructure must be improved. To become a more developed nation and become a top global power, strategies are needed. A change in approach by stakeholders is required.

Local industry is expected to participate. ICT for banking in Indonesia is already well-developed. 90% of the Indonesian population already has telecommunications subscribers. The Telematics Industry layer structure has been established to develop ICT and consists of eight layers. And now, internet access has become a basic need.
