It's not only giant vendors who can show off at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014. Indonesians can too!

They won 3rd place in the University Mobile Challenge which was held at the 2014 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

This team showcases the MDCare mobile application and comes from the Bandung Institute of Technology, guided by Prof. Soegijardjo Soegijoko , consisting of students S2 and S3 from the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics. The MDCare team members are Dody Qory Utama (student S3), Indira Pramita Sari (student S2), Anggun Meka Luhur (student S2), Jeffry Adityatama (student S2) and Leonard Goeirmanto (student S3). The MDCare team received full support from STEI-ITB and dr. Tauhid Nur Azhar.

MDCare is an application mobile health which functions to increase interactivity between patients and doctors automatically.

According to Dody, a team member, this is crucial because in Indonesia, he observed that communication between doctors and patients is suboptimal. Yet, this is crucial for the success of a patient's treatment for a disease.

Dody added that Indonesia has a relatively high malpractice rate. Analysis revealed that 60% of malpractice cases were related to patients' failure to follow the doctor's treatment order and instructions.

However, on the other hand, doctors cannot devote 100% of their attention to every patient, considering that the ratio of doctors to the population in Indonesia is still far from adequate. "The problem is that communication between doctors and patients is less than optimal. The solution we offer from MDCare is reminders and education so that patients can follow the order and rules of treatment properly," he said, in a written statement received. detikINET, Kamis (27/2/2014).

Concerned about this situation, Prof. Soegijardjo Soegijoko gathered and shared ideas for solving the problem with the MDCare team in the ITB Biomedical Engineering room. The MDCare team also discussed with several lecturers in Biomedical Engineering to find the right solution. After agreeing on the idea of creating a health application, they began work on the application in just 3 weeks.

MDCare immediately caught the attention of the Maternity and Child Hospital network in Bandung, which was interested in implementing it in their hospital system.

CDC Telkom, which played a role in helping develop MDCare, also suggested that the team collaborate with PT Telkom Indonesia for the future development of this application.

After presenting and being announced as the 3rd winner of the University Mobile Challenge Mobile World Congress 2014, MDCare is now flooded with interest.

Among them is Qatari airline Etihad, which intends to implement MDCare to improve health information services for its 17,000 employees.

In other words, this work of the nation's children is very possible to be used in everyday life, and is useful for helping human life.
