Create BBM Limiter Application, STEI ITB Student: II OSN Pertamina Champion
The increase in fuel prices last year apparently did not only disturb the minds and the government as policy makers. The fuel subsidy that was quite detrimental to the state budget was the main background for the increase in fuel prices at that time. In response to this, three ITB students namely Hanif Lyonnais (Informatics Engineering 2010), Satria Ady Pradana (Informatics Engineering 2010), and Irfan Kamil (Informatics Engineering 2010) who joined the Wikara team also contributed their innovation by creating an application to limit subsidized fuel. The Wikara Team's work is called "Eazyfuel", a software application that assists in purchasing transactions and managing subsidized fuel. With this Eazyfuel work, the Wikara Team won second place in the 2013 Pertamina OSN Competition for the science project category.
Eazyfuel, which is the work of the Wikara team, in its application uses... smartcard used by fuel buyers. In practice, each person will have a card that is used to purchase fuel at gas stations. The cards are divided into several groups, differentiated depending on whether the card owner is a group that requires subsidized fuel or not. For example, low-income communities certainly have a larger subsidized fuel quota than middle- and upper-income communities. "If the card quota runs out, the card owner must buy non-subsidized fuel," explained Irfan. By using "Near Field Communication" technology, the process of checking each person's quota will be easier. In addition, the government has the opportunity to save trillions of rupiah by implementing this technology.
To prepare for this competition, the Wikara Team spent around six months preparing starting from July 2013. During the six months of preparation, Hanif and his friends improved... prototype demi prototype before finally making it to the final round in December 2013. Furthermore, the Wikara Team also sought examples of innovations for comparison in other countries. "Indeed, not many developed countries currently have subsidized fuel policies like Indonesia. It can be said that the model we proposed is a new idea from the team's discussions. We hope this application can make a positive contribution to government policy. We also conducted sufficient scientific exploration during the development of this application," said Hanif.
Hanif, Irfan, and Satria's interest in informatics has been long-standing. Irfan even admitted to having been interested in informatics since junior high school. However, the three of them have distinct interests. Hanif is more interested in systems integration, Irfan in web technology, and Satria in network security or IT. .. "But with that difference, the division of tasks feels easier and everyone has their respective roles," explained Satria. Besides having long been interested in informatics, Hanif and his friends have long gained experience by participating in various competitions. Hanif and Irfan previously won second place in the 2013 Harteknas Smartcard Application LEN competition, while Satria also actively participated in the 2013 GEMASTIK competition.
Asked about his interesting experiences during the competition, Satria replied that one of the unforgettable experiences was the opportunity to visit the Pertamina Fuel Depot in Plumpang. The Plumpang Depot plays a crucial role in fuel distribution, especially for the Greater Jakarta area, the region with the largest fuel circulation center in Indonesia. "The Plumpang Depot, which is also a national asset, does not allow just anyone to enter it, which was the most memorable experience for us," said Satria.
In addition, asked about the prospects for developing Eazyfuel, Hanif replied that they hope that the recommendations for this application can be conveyed to the government and developed. "During this competition, we found that there are actually many innovations from students that are able to solve or at least provide new insights for problems in this country, but unfortunately, these innovations often end up as just a plan because they are not followed up, hopefully the government's attention to programs like this can be increased," said Hanif.
Apart from being busy compiling their final assignment, Hanif and his friends are currently pioneering start-up IT bussiness, rumah software "Velocite Technology," as well as initiating an intelligence portal system for the upcoming general election for the city of Bandung. Developing work and collaborating with the government are the Wikara team's immediate targets. "Having the opportunity to be a student at ITB is a gift for ourselves, but when we are able to create, it becomes a gift for others," Satria concluded the interview.
