Electrical Power Engineering Students Visit STEI ITB Star Energy for a Deeper Understanding
Bandung. stei.itb.ac.id – On Thursday, October 26, 2023, as many as 26 students from Electrical Power Engineering Study Program The School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of the Bandung Institute of Technology (STEI ITB) conducted an empowerment visit to the Star Energy Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) in Pangalengan, West Java. This visit is part of the “Student Visit EP to PLTP Star Energy” program initiated by the Electronics Student Association and aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the technology and operational processes of PLTP and encourage students to play an active role in the development of renewable energy in Indonesia.
During their visit, the students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Rahmat, a member of Star Energy Logistics staff. Before beginning their fieldwork, they attended a session . which educates them about the safety rules at the PLTP location. The things that are emphasized in . including the use of helmets and protective footwear as a precaution against injury, a ban on the use of perfume to avoid disturbing insects such as bees and wasps, and the importance of being accompanied by plant staff during visits.
After the safety induction session, the students continued their visit by conducting direct observations on the main equipment of the PLTP, including the separator, pool, and drill. They also got the opportunity to explore the power plant complex and inspect various supporting components, such as transformers, substations (GI), cooling tower, and the control room. During the visit, they actively asked questions of PLTP staff to gain a deeper understanding of how the equipment and components work.
In addition to field observation activities, students also participate in HR Session which is shaped talkshow In this session, they gained insight into the staff selection process, interviews, and some tips for successfully finding a job as an engineer. The session was enriched by the experience of a senior staff member, Mr. Rejeki, who is part of Star Energy.
This visit brought great benefits to the students by seeing firsthand how geothermal power generation technology works in practice. Students have gained invaluable insights and insights into the advantages and challenges in adopting this technology in Indonesia. In addition, direct interaction with practitioners and researchers in the field can help them understand the latest developments in the EBT industry. This activity can also motivate STEI ITB students to be more actively involved in the research and development of EBT technology. They can see the important role of science and technology in supporting efforts to achieve clean and sustainable energy targets in Indonesia. In addition, the opportunity to discuss and share ideas with experts in the field can provide deep insights and motivate them to contribute to the development of EBT in Indonesia.
This visit is part of HME ITB and STEI ITB's efforts to provide a comprehensive education to students in the field of Electrical Power Engineering. It is hoped that this experience will improve students' understanding and skills in understanding and designing EBT power generation systems for the long-dreamed net-zero emission future.
