Informatics Student ITB Wins Pertamina Energy Hackathon 2.0

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The Pertavision team from ITB successfully won the Pertamina Energy Hackathon 2.0 which took place in Jakarta on August 24-25, 2019. They won thanks to their vehicle license plate recognition technology to provide insight into drivers at gas stations.

The members of Pertavision consist of Ilham Firdausi Putra (19), Hafizh Budiman (21), and Restu Wahyu Kartiko (21). All three are students. Informatics Engineering ITB who fought all day long in this Hackathon event.

"It's worth it. It's 24 hours, and I was tired at first, but in the end I was surprised and happy," Ilham told Liputan6.com on Sunday (August 25, 2019) in Jakarta.

He is the youngest member, but he's in the same year as the other team members due to participating in the acceleration program. The young man from Padang admitted that his team almost canceled the Hackathon.

"At first, we almost didn't make it. We had registered, but one of our friends couldn't make it, and we backed out. Then, at the very end, with just a few hours left, we finally made it," said Ilham.

Other team members Hafizh and Restu said they only slept for about three hours, from 3:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. They also said they participated in the hackathon on their own initiative and without the lecturer's knowledge.

Kejernihan Optimal

Pertamina's Senior Vice President of Corporate ICT, Jeffrey Tjahja Indra, praised Pertavision for its automatic license plate recognition technology. It boasts optimal clarity, unlike previous similar technologies.

"He proposed a breakthrough solution, meaning it provided insight and evidence that tapping vehicle license plates could be done digitally and with good accuracy," Jeffrey explained.
