Public Lecture by Professor Yasuhide Hobara
Held in the multimedia room of STEI ITB, Friday, February 18, 2011, the Telecommunication Engineering Study Program of STEI ITB held a public lecture with the theme "Ionospheric perturbations observed by VLF/LF transmitter signals and its applications". The speaker was Prof. Yasuhide Hobara, from The University of Electro-Communications (UEC), Japan.
The public lecture attended by ET3086, ET5182 and ET6180 students from the Telecommunication Engineering Study Program explained that the electromagnetic measurement method using VLF/LF can be used for:
1. Predicting earthquakes in the short term, or approximately two weeks in advance. This is due to the statistical correlation between ionospheric perturbations and earthquakes.
2. Determining the location of lightning. This is also due to perturbations in the ionosphere.
The public lecture, which was also attended by one of STEI's lecturers, Mr. Achmad Munir, ended with a question and answer session by students.
