The 2022 ABU Indonesia Robot Contest (KRAI) will follow the theme and guidelines of the 2022 ABU Asia Pacific Robot Contest, which will be held in New Delhi, India. KRAI 2022 will be held in two stages: a regional contest (online) and a national contest (in-person).

Participants who qualify for the regional contest will have the opportunity to compete at the national level. The national contest will be held at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in Surabaya. The national winner will represent Indonesia at the ABU Asia Pacific Robot Contest 2022.

The 2022 Indonesian Thematic Robot Contest (KRTMI) uses the same rules as the 2021 KRTMI, namely the traditional game of Dam-daman, implemented using Digital-Twin technology. The game pits two teams against each other, maneuvering robots on a physical field to move coins across a digital field.

The 2022 KRI was the first to be held offline since the COVID-19 pandemic forced the competition to be held online. The contest was held at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) from June 29 to July 3, 2022.

The KRI was first held in 2003 under the Directorate General of Higher Education, then Ministry of Education and Culture. All students at universities in the Republic of Indonesia, from various ministries/agencies or government agencies, registered in the Higher Education Database, are eligible to participate.

The 2022 KRI event will feature six divisions. The divisions competed are the Indonesian ABU Robot Contest (KRAI), the Indonesian Search and Rescue (SAR) Contest (KRSRI), the Thematic Robot Contest (KRTMI), the Indonesian Dance Contest (KRSTI), the Indonesian Wheeled Football Contest (KRSBI-Beroda), and the Humanoid Football Robot Contest (KRSBI-Humanoid).
