SpeQtral, STEI ITB, and Kennlines Capital Group Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Develop Quantum Secure Network in Indonesia
ndopos.co.id – SpeQtral, the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at the Bandung Institute of Technology (STEI-ITB), and Kennlines Capital Group have officially signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a secure network. (secured network) through quantum technology in Indonesia.
This signing focused on a commitment to raise awareness of the benefits of Quantum Communication Technology and the security of telecommunications networks more broadly. It began with the 2020 Quantum Information Seminars & Workshop with the theme "The Megatrend of Quantum Information & Secured Communication."
The ceremony, held in the Soesilo Soedarman Hall, Sapta Pesona Building, on Thursday (February 20, 2020), was attended by invited guests from government institutions, telecommunications and satellite-based companies, banks, and academics from several universities.
In addition to the signing of the memorandum of understanding, this activity also collaborated with a discussion forum for Quantum Communication and Computing Experts and Government Officials presented in the form of seminars and workshops, in accordance with the basic modules of the Center for Quantum Technology by SpeQtral.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SpeQtral, Chune Yang Lum said, Quantum Communication Technology has the power to transform the security of telecommunications networks throughout the world.
The new Quantum Communication technology, namely Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), is the most secure method for distributing encryption keys as one of the important essences in the process of secure communication from eavesdroppers.
"SpeQtral warmly welcomes the collaboration with ITB & Kennlines Capital Group and is optimistic about ensuring that all communication data in Indonesia can be secured from the threat of wiretapping in the future," said Chune Yang in a press conference session of Quantum Information Seminars & Workshop 2020, Thursday (20/2/2020).
Meanwhile, the Dean of STEI-ITB, Prof. Dwi H. Widyantoro He added that QKD is a technology that is capable of providing the best network security system in protecting communication data today.

"QKD technology was created more than 30 years ago and has been tested by several universities and research laboratories in various countries so that it can be implemented in practical systems today," he said.
Dwi also expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. He stated that through this collaboration, ITB can play a role as a center for research and development of Quantum Technology in Indonesia and even Southeast Asia.
As QKD technology continues to develop globally, Mirza Whibowo Soenarto, Chairman of Kennlines Capital Group, stated that this technology has the potential to be applied in government and defense, as well as telecommunications, network security, banking, and enterprise systems.
"Indonesia needs a system that provides strong and stringent network security to minimize losses caused by irresponsible parties, and QKD is the solution to this problem," he explained.
Leveraging SpeQtral's reputation as a leading company in quantum technology and satellite telecommunications research, this collaboration aims to introduce these technologies widely and raise awareness of the benefits of quantum communication technology and telecommunications network security in Indonesia.
Mirza added that the signing of this memorandum of understanding is expected to inspire motivation among the academic community and the Indonesian public in general. "This is to contribute to the development of Quantum Communication in Indonesia," he concluded.
Quantum Technology itself is one of the latest technological innovations that combines the principles of quantum mechanics with information science theory.
Quantum technology itself is divided into three areas: Quantum Computing, Quantum Communications, and Quantum Sensing.
Of these three fields, quantum communications is considered the most mature technology. This is because it is a subset of quantum technology that leverages the properties of photons to create unique capabilities for detecting eavesdropping by exploiting the properties of quantum mechanics, which broadly refers to the use of quantum channels for communication.
Most quantum communications development activities are conducted by government-sponsored organizations outside the United States. However, commercial development of this technology is largely driven by privately funded companies and organizations, as well as by several major telecommunications and satellite operators.
