ITB Holds an Academic Public Discussion on IMEI Blocking

Bandung, stei.itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung held an Academic Public Discussion entitled “Digital Consumer Protection through IMEI Blocking of Lost/Stolen Mobile Phones” on Monday (September 29) at the West Hall Auditorium Building, ITB. . .

The event brought together representatives from academia, regulators, industry, law enforcement, and consumer protection organizations. Speakers in attendance included Dr. Hermawan, S.Pd., M.M.Pd., M.H. (West Java Regional Police), Adis Alifiawan (Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia), Ronggolawe Sahuri (Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia), Islachudin (ATSI), Ali Yanuar (APSI), Heru Sutadi (BPKN), and Rafika Zulfa (YLKI). From ITB, the event was also attended by the Dean of SEEI ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tutun Juhana, S.T., M.T.

The discussion aimed to gather input and strengthen public literacy regarding the IMEI blocking service as a preventive measure against the misuse of lost or stolen devices, while also supporting a safer and more transparent second-hand mobile phone trading ecosystem.

The activity was conducted in an open forum format and was attended by students and members of the ITB academic community. The outcomes of the discussion indicated public support—particularly from students—for this service, accompanied by important notes regarding reporting mechanisms, system integration, personal data protection, and regulatory clarity that need to be widely disseminated.

Through this forum, ITB reaffirmed its role as an independent academic partner in supporting the establishment of a national digital ecosystem that is safe, inclusive, and consumer-oriented.
