In the 2014 QS World University Rankings for Computer Science & Information Systems, ITB ranked 151-200. In the 1-200 rankings, ITB is the only Indonesian university in this subject. ITB was not ranked in other engineering subjects.

In the 151-200 ranking, ITB (subject "Computer Science & Information System") is together with several other universities in the world (in the same ranking) such as: Keio University, Texas A&M University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Tohoku University, etc.

Of 200 universities worldwide, only one Indonesian university is listed in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. That university is the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

In the list released today, ITB ranked 151st-200th among computer science and information systems educational institutions. The University of Indonesia (UI) and the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII), which are usually prominent in world rankings, failed to secure a single position among the 30 disciplines.

A written statement from the QS World University Rankings by Subject to Okezone on Wednesday (February 26, 2014) stated that the rankings were based on research citations and surveys on the reputation of each university. The survey involved more than 90,000 academics, graduates, and university employees worldwide.

The poor performance of Indonesian universities is similar to that experienced by the Philippines. Only one university, the University of the Philippines, represents the country, ranking 151-200 in agriculture and forestry. This contrasts sharply with the performance of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore. These countries demonstrate strengths, particularly in engineering and technology disciplines.

This ranking involves universities in the Asia Pacific region and mainland Europe. These regions generally lag behind universities in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Ten Asian universities ranked among the top 30 in chemistry, civil engineering, and electrical engineering. Eight universities secured positions in mechanical engineering. These achievements demonstrate that several institutions in the region can be considered world-class players.

The National University of Singapore ranked in the top 10 in five engineering and technology fields. Meanwhile, Hong Kong placed three of its universities in the top 20 in computer science: HKUST (11th), HKU (14th), and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (18th).

Overall, Harvard remains the top university in all fields. Harvard ranks first in 11 of the 30 academic disciplines, two points ahead of its rival, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
