Ciptakan Aplikasi Pembatasan BBM : Hanif Lyonnais

Hanif Lyonnais, 21, has been passionate about informatics since high school. The final-year Informatics Engineering student at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) honed his technological skills by participating in competitions. In December 2013, Hanif was one of the winners of the National Science Olympiad (OSN) held by Pertamina in the software science project category.

Hanif and his team beat out over 600 students for an app called Eazyfuel. Eazyfuel is an app that helps with purchasing and managing subsidized fuel, which he hopes will solve the country's subsidized fuel sales problem.

On Sunday afternoon (February 23rd) at the ITB campus, Hanif took the time to be interviewed by Move. The Lyon, France-born man spoke about his passion for informatics and Eazyfuel, as well as his achievements in the 2013 National Science Olympiad (OSN).

Apa kesibukanmu seka rang?
I and some friends are developing Velocite Technology, a software house that produces mobile applications to information system development consultants and other IT products.

Sejak kapan mengenal dunia infor matika?
I've loved computers since high school. I used to love tinkering with them. There's so much you can do with a computer, and for me, the technology in computers is the future.

Finally, when choosing a major, it turned out that my interest was in science, especially informatics.

Why are you interested in science?
I'm a curious person. I love reading and want to learn. I find science and natural sciences fascinating. Actually, when I was little, I wanted to be an engineer or a doctor.
A What is the subsidized fuel transaction assistant application?
It's called Eazyfuel, and it's similar in concept to a credit card. It's an electronic card with a credit balance and quota that can be used to purchase fuel. Fuel transactions at gas stations don't require cash; simply tap the purchase amount. What's so special about Eazyfuel?
The advantage of this card is that it has a quota system that I created to limit subsidized fuel to a predetermined amount.
If the quota is used up, consumers will be required to purchase non-subsidized fuel.
Why did you come up with the idea of creating this application?
The initial development coincided with the controversy surrounding the fuel price hike in the middle of last year. My colleagues and I began to think about what we could do to provide a solution.
I was actually inspired by the e-KTP. I thought that one day the e-KTP would be available to everyone. From there, I thought the technology should be based on a card.
What is your goal with this application?
First, we currently cannot restrict fuel purchases by certain individuals. Second, there is no valid data showing who fuel buyers are, whether they can afford it or not. With this application, all data will be recorded. This data will serve as the basis for the government to establish fuel policies. The point is to limit fuel purchases, thus encouraging people to buy non-subsidized fuel.
What are the benefits of this application for society?
For the public, the convenience is the speed of transactions and not having to carry cash when buying fuel.
Did you do any research?
Since June 2013, we have been conducting research on fuel management in other countries. We are also exploring the feasibility of implementing the technology in Indonesia.
How many people are working on this app?
There are three. I'm working on them with Irfan Kamil and Satria Adi Pradana, who are in the same department as me. When I explained the concept of this app, they were also intrigued. Why did you choose to focus on developing technology in the energy sector?
Because energy is a substantial element in a country, we want to contribute to helping the government, even if indirectly. How does Eazyfuel work?
The process works, each person is given a card that has a balance and fuel purchase quota.
Mengapa tertarik ikut OSN Pertamina?
This is actually a personal idealism. As a student, I had to be able to create something. It would be great if what I created benefited society. That's why I participated in the Pertamina National Science Olympiad (OSN).
Is there a specific target in the competition?
wanted to win there. I was actually a bit disappointed when I came in second. But I finally understood that there were shortcomings that prevented me from winning, and I need to improve in the future to make my work even better. Are there any lessons or impressions you learned from the OSN?
Hmm... when all the finalists are gathered, there's actually a lot of Indonesian students' work that has potential if developed. From there, I hope the government will pay more attention to these works.
Apart from Eazyfuel, are there any other application programs that you have created?
Two years ago, I created a web application for autistic children called Indonesia Caution. In Indonesia, there was no website that accommodated and provided comprehensive information about autistic children. It included games and videos that autistic children could play. I also collaborated with the Purwakarta government to create an integrated SMS public complaint system for them.
So the government there can have more control over its performance.
Why do you want to work with the government?
In my opinion, the government is the highest policy maker. So if we can help the government, the resulting impact can be big.
