IEEE SC ITB Adakan Seminar IoT, Peluang Emas Generasi Digital
On Tuesday (10/05/16), the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Student Chapter (IEEE SC) ITB held INSTANCE (Inspiration at Glance: Explore IoT), a seminar on the Internet of Things (IoT) which is open to the public. The seminar presented three speakers, namely the Chairman of the IEEE Computer Society Indonesia Chapter, Dr. Ir. Ary Setijadi Prihatmanto, CEO of eFishery, Gibran Huzaifah, and CEO of DycodeX, Andri Yadi. The seminar discussion focused on the use of the internet in control and automation processes from the perspective of practitioners and academics.
The seminar opened with an explanation of IEEE SC ITB. In addition to its role as a scientific journal publishing institution, IEEE SC ITB also conducts various student activities such as seminars, training, and journal writing guidance. Furthermore, this institution serves as a meeting place for lecturers and students in conducting research. Several collaborative works by ITB students and lecturers have been published as scientific journals accessible on the IEEE website.
Ary began the seminar by explaining the applications of IoT in various industries, including petrochemicals, aviation, automotive, food, education, healthcare, and entertainment. He explained how the internet has transformed industries with the development of remote control. This allows control rooms to be operated from headquarters, replacing conventional control systems that require controllers to be directly on-site.
One application of IoT in education is the multi-campus concept currently being developed by ITB. With campus buildings spread across Ganesha and Jatinangor, ITB relies on IoT infrastructure to connect the two campuses. These facilities are used for distance learning, environmental monitoring, and data transfer.
The next two speakers are Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) graduates who have started IoT-based startups. Gibran founded eFishery in his second year of study in the Department of Biology, which is the first breakthrough in fish farm feeding control in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Andri has developed DyCodeX since 2008, working in the automation field with products such as operatorless automatic printers and drinking water gallon monitoring devices. They continued by sharing their experiences in building and running their businesses.
IoT technology has a wide range of potential applications in various fields. Supported by the rapid growth of internet users, IoT is the future of technology. "Your generation has a huge opportunity with IoT. Don't miss it," said Ary during his presentation.
