ITB Anniversary: Establishing Its Identity as a Research University

On Monday (04/03/14) ITB held its 55th Anniversary at the ITB West Hall. The event, which began at 08.00 WIB, was attended by various elements of the ITB academic community, starting from the ITB Chancellor, Advisory Board, Academic Senate, Council of Professors, to students. In the framework of this Anniversary, in addition to holding an open session, a Public Lecture was also held. The first speech was given by the Chair of the ITB Advisory Board, Ir. Yani Panigoro, MM followed by a speech by the Chair of the Academic Senate, Prof. Intan Ahmad, Ph.D. After that, according to tradition, a speech was held by the Rector of ITB, Prof. Akhmaloka, Ph.D., followed by a scientific speech from Prof. Dr. Setiawan Sabana entitled "The Face of Contemporary Indonesian Fine Arts: The Complexity of Development and Artistic Creativity".

The changes over a period of more than half a century are quite concerning. Particularly in Indonesia, ITB must transform itself to be relevant to issues in the country and even the world. "Opening interdisciplinary studies and research, students are also trained to design technology policies so that ITB can become a pioneer of the movement," said Yani in his remarks.

In response to the remarks from the Chair of the ITB Advisory Board, Intan Ahmad, a representative of the Academic Senate, emphasized that higher education today is no longer designed to meet everyday needs. "More than that, education today is a vehicle for improving science and technology and plays a vital role in the advancement of a nation in terms of economic competitiveness," Intan emphasized.

In addition to scientific speeches, ITB's 55th Anniversary also presented awards to its academic community. These awards included the Ganesa Bakti Cendekia Utama (Ganesa Bakti Cendekia Utama), the Ganesa Widya Adiutama (Ganesa Widya Cendekia Utama), the Ganesa Dwija Jasa Utama (Ganesa Wira Adiutama), and the Ganesa Widya Jasa Utama (Ganesa Widya Jasa Utama). School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics that is Prof. Ir. Soedjana Sapiee, Dr. Ir. Sudarjatno Sudirham. Prof. Ir. Carmadi Machbub. Not to forget, interspersed with the beautiful performances of the ITB Student Choir and the ITB Angklung Choir Family.

At the end of his speech, Akhmaloka as the Chancellor of ITB stated that the people of knowledge, higher education institutions and science and technology institutions are the pillars of a developed nation. "The existence of ITB is for the progress of the nation and the progress of human civilization," Akhmaloka emphasized. Regarding the determination of ITB's status this year as a State University with Legal Entity, Akhmaloka advised that this is a new chapter in the journey of higher education in Indonesia, ITB in particular. "It is important that ITB, as a university with legal entity status, carries out a mission to be more responsive to developing problems in society and more anticipatory in responding to future challenges," said Akhmaloka.

On the 55th Anniversary of ITB this time, after the open session, the inauguration of the restoration of the West Hall and East Hall was held, chaired by Bambang Setia Budi, Dr. Eng. In addition, a symbolic handover of the transnangor shuttlebus from Bank Rakyat Indonesia and the West Java Provincial Government was also held. Ribbon cutting as a symbol of the inauguration of the restoration. The cutting of the ribbon series was carried out as a symbol of the inauguration of the restoration of the West Hall and East Hall in front of the East Hall door by the ITB Rector, Chair of the Academic Senate, Chair of the Advisory Board. Continued with a development report from Bambang Setia Budi and remarks from Joni Alwadris as Deputy Chair of BRI Bandung. The symbolic handover was finally followed by a thank you from the ITB Rector.
