The First Dean of STEI ITB, Prof. Adang Suwandi Ahmad, Passed Away
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) family is once again in mourning over the passing of Prof. Dr. Ir. Adang Suwandi Ahmad, Dr. Ing, DEA, Ir, IPU., Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI) ITB. The deceased passed away on Monday, June 22, 2019 at around 00.56 WIB.
Before being laid to rest, the deceased was first prayed for at the Salman Mosque of ITB. To honor his services and dedication to ITB, a funeral procession was held in the West Hall. The body was interred at the Public Cemetery in Lembang, West Java.
"The entire ITB family is in mourning, accompanied by prayers that God Almighty will accept all his good deeds, services, and dedication that he has contributed, both to the ITB institution and to society and the nation in general," said the Chairman of the ITB Academic Senate, Prof. Hermawan Kresno Dipojono, representing the rector who was unable to attend.
He added that history has recorded that the deceased was a polite and respectful person to everyone, including his colleagues, seniors, and juniors. He has recorded numerous achievements, services, and dedication to ITB, the community, the nation, and the state.
"Farewell, Mr. Prof. Adang Suwandi Ahmad, our prayers are always with you, your spirit and ideals remain with us, which will be continued to advance our institution and nation," said Prof. Hermawan in his remarks.
At the farewell ceremony for the deceased, STEI Dean Prof. Dr. Ir. Jaka Sembiring, M.Eng., read a brief biography of the deceased. He also expressed the deep condolences of the entire STEI ITB family for his passing. Prof. Adang was none other than the first Dean of STEI-ITB, from 2006 to 2010.
Born in Lembang, November 3, 1948, the deceased graduated with a Bachelor's degree from ITB in 1976, then continued his Master's degree at Universite de Montpellier II, graduating in 1979 and his Doctorate at Universite les Sciences et Technique du Lunyuecluc, France, graduating in 1981.
During his lifetime, he received several awards, including the Satyalancana Karya Satya (SLKS) Award for 10, 20, and 30 years, the ITB 35-Year Award, and the ITB 25-Year Award. He retired from ITB in 2018.
Tatang Sumanata conveyed condolences from the family of the deceased. He, who was none other than the deceased's older brother, apologized to his younger brother's friends and students at ITB if during his lifetime there was anything that the deceased did not like in his daily activities or while teaching.
"Thank you to the rector and colleagues who organized this event. May the bereaved family find patience," he said.
