Team Phoenix from ITB Crowned Winner of L’oreal Brandstorm 2019

Jakarta, March 21, 2019 – After holding the Brandstorm competition for 10 consecutive years, today L’Oréal Indonesia crowned the Phoenix team from the Bandung Institute of Technology as the winner of L’Oréal Brandstorm 2019. The Phoenix team with its innovation Smart & Easy Band succeeded in eliminating 8 other finalists in the final round which was assessed strictly by the judges, by answering this year’s challenge. The challenge was created to achieve the mission of creating a future skincare experience for health consumers. Thus, the Phoenix team will represent Indonesia in the international final round and compete against participants from 65 countries, in Paris, France on May 22, 2019.

Phoenix consists of Albert Sahala Theodore (Informatics 2016), Rifda Annelies Az Zahra (Information Systems and Technology 2016), and Johan Poernomo (Electrical Engineering 2016The three of them are studying at the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Bandung Institute of Technology. Phoenix created an innovative bracelet to detect eczema symptoms in children. They also created an innovative serum to reduce eczema symptoms in children.

“Eczema is a skin disease characterized by the appearance of persistent itching and the appearance of a red skin rash that will get worse at night. Our idea through the Smart & Easy Band is that the bracelet will display a special light when eczema symptoms occur, so parents can monitor it. L’Oreal as a market leader in skincare in eczema treatment, and has a special product, namely La Roche Posay Lipikar, our idea is to create a new packaging shaped like a crayon that can be filled with moisturizer (for prevention) and lipikar stick AP for soothing if eczema has already appeared,” said Albert Sahala, a member of the Phoenix team.

"We are very grateful to have been selected as the national winners of Brandstorm 2019. We are confident that this will be a valuable asset for entering the professional world, especially as we compete for the internship opportunity at Station F—it's truly something we must strive for," he added.

Umesh Phadke, President Director, PT L’Oréal Indonesia said, “We never apply mediocre standards, all finalists are assessed through strict judging by the L’Oreal Indonesia team. For the first time, the winner of the L’Oréal Brandstorm International will have the opportunity to bring their innovative idea to life at Station F, the world's largest startup campus and L’Oréal partner, through a 3-month immersive program. There, the winner will be mentored by experts and demonstrate the feasibility of their concept to L’Oréal executives and will be given the opportunity to receive the grand prize, which is the creation of a prototype of their project by the L’Oréal entity.
