Virtual Pet won the Digital Interactive Media Award at INAICTA 2011
The largest digital creative community event in the country was held by the Indonesia ICT Awards, namely INAICTA 2011, on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 in Jakarta. The series of events concluded with an awards ceremony for participants who won INAICTA awards in various categories. Of the 110 nominated participants, 24 participants, ranging from professionals, practitioners, students, and pupils, received awards. Indonesia Information and Communication Technologies Award (INAICTA) 2011. The winners received certificates and trophies as well as cash prizes of Rp20 million each. One of the 24 participants who received this award was a student from STEI who called themselves the Virtual Pet Team. The team consisted of Reza Darmakusuma, Fajar Persada Supandi, M. Hakim Adiprasetya, Rizki Fauzian, Wisnu Suswantoro, and Diotran Henriyan. They won the category University: Digital Interactive Media with its products Virtual Pet which is a Multi-Modal Game application for raising rare animals.
Virtual Pet is an interactive, digital-based pet application designed to provide users with an immersive experience caring for their pets through realistic simulations. This is intended to emotionally connect users with their pets and thereby raise awareness of the importance of conservation for rare and endangered species in Indonesia.
In implementing this application, the team tried various media to be able to apply the concept. The core of this game is the interaction between players and their pets. To begin, players are required to access a website (CMS) where they can register, select an animal species, and determine its name and characteristics. Afterward, players can download the app to run on their mobile phones and begin playing and caring for their pets. An interesting aspect of this app is that it enables socialization for pets and a multi-user environment. Several competitions are held between pets, which can improve each pet's competence. Within the community, Virtual PetUsers can trade accessories and other parameters with other users. For this reason, the Web App can be accessed from home or mobile, and a 3D virtual environment is available for users to interact with in public settings such as malls and arcades, creating social connections between pets and fellow players.
