Siap Siaga Bencana, ITB Laksanakan Simulasi Evakuasi Kebakaran
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Fire is one of the most frequent man-made disasters in Indonesia. Caused by minor negligence such as not extinguishing cigarettes properly, using electrical currents that exceed capacity resulting in short circuits, not being careful in using dangerous, flammable chemicals, etc., fire is a human accident that should be easily prevented and handled. Responding to this, ITB held a fire evacuation simulation activity focused on the Labtek V area, ITB on Monday (10/23/17), at 1:30 PM WIB, which was attended by the entire academic community and ITB guests in the Labtek V area.
At exactly 1:32 PM WIB, the fire evacuation simulation began with the sounding of a siren. The simulation involved burning scraps of paper to create a fire, according to Septian, a security officer for the Labtek V and GKU Barat areas.
The fire was extinguished using automatic water jets that specifically targeted the source of the fire. Furthermore, K3L officers in the Labtek V area used AFF Foam fire extinguishers to simulate smoke and practice using them.
Two minutes after the trigger siren sounded, the simulation participants began to leave the Labtek V area in an orderly manner and rushed to gather at assembly point The nearest building, located south of Labtek V and the West CC, was opened. There, the Labtek V Building's K3L officers provided guidance on the ongoing evacuation. During this simulation, participants were informed that the day was a fire disaster simulation.
The source stated that disaster simulations have been frequently conducted at ITB recently, not only in the Labtek V area but also in other areas of ITB. "They take turns in each building," he explained.
Furthermore, the resource person stated that there was no schedule for the disaster simulation. "The Head of K3L himself assigned us to conduct the simulation," he said.
The simulation finished at 13.50 WIB and activities continued as usual.
The purpose of this disaster simulation is to anticipate a fire at ITB. The hope is that ITB's academic community and guests will be more aware of occupational safety issues.
