To Secure the National Internet, Indonesia Needs 7,000 IT Security Personnel
Information and telecommunications (IT) security expert Budi Raharjo stated that Indonesia needs at least 7,000 IT security experts to monitor internet traffic (To Ensure National Internet Security, Indonesia Needs 7,000 IT Security).
"We need at least seven thousand IT security personnel to monitor the internet in this country, this is necessary to prevent cyber crime," said Budi Raharjo at the 2014 Indonesia Cyber Crime Summit (ICCS) national seminar at the ITB Bandung Campus, Thursday.
According to Budi, just like health with 70 million internet users, Indonesia is faced with an outbreak of cybercrime amidst a human resources (HR) crisis in the security sector.
He stated that the number of IT security personnel in Indonesia is still limited, even though he believes they are greatly needed, whether they have bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degrees.
"The reality is that the number of IT security personnel is far below expectations, which is a challenge. Indonesia needs at least 7,000 IT security personnel," he said.
Meanwhile, Sharing Vision Director Dimitri Mahayana said that in 2013, according to the results of Sharing Vision research, Indonesia was ranked first in the country targeted by 42 thousand daily attacks.
"Indonesia has become a country with high risks in technology and information security," said Dimitri Mahayana.
According to him, the government is expected to direct the formation of legal instruments, a cyber force with thousands of IT security experts and a hub for monitoring information traffic on the internet involving multiple departments.
"The government needs to make efforts to direct the formation of legal instruments and IT security human resources to monitor information traffic on the internet," he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of Special Economic Crimes at the Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General A Kamil Razak, stated that there are many obstacles in law enforcement that are faced every month with cyber crimes.

"There are still limitations in human resources in the IT security sector, the police continue to make efforts to develop human resources, budget and complete supporting information technology infrastructure," Kamil Razak added.
