Reza Rizky Darmawan: Outstanding Student of the Year 2016
When first entering ITB, every individual undoubtedly has their own dreams and strives to achieve them. Along the way, obstacles sometimes arise and extinguish the fire of enthusiasm of new students. It feels so difficult to persevere until the end. How can a child who has just graduated from high school maintain the flame of enthusiasm that only a spark remains? In 2012, there was one of them who dreamed of becoming the best student on campus. With a strong spirit and determination, now he has become a living proof of the realization of his dream. Tirelessly, Reza Rizky Darmawan (Electrical Power Engineering 2012) continues to work and carve out brilliant achievements on the path to his dream.
The Glitter of Gold in Achieving Dreams
On his journey to achieve his dream during TPB, Reza forged himself through training, internship, and other self-development media. The man from Yogyakarta succeeded in becoming Microsoft South East Asia Intern 2015, the Indonesian representative in Hitachi Young Leaders Initiative 2015, the Indonesian representative in Singapore International Foundation Young Social Entrepreneurs Program 2016, International Students Joint Capstone Design Project in Korea in 2016, Young Leaders for Indonesia Regional Wave 3 by McKinsey, and Best Student of STEI (School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics) ITB.
Not only that, Reza also participated in several competitions that interested him. He came in second place. Oil Platform Design Contest on Trisakti Oil Expo 2015. At Petroleum Week 2016Reza won second place in an international competition in the same field. Thanks to his dedication to learning and developing his skills, at his young age, Reza has already made many friends and acquaintances from abroad. He has also had the opportunity to chat with leaders of major companies from around the world and present to dignitaries from other countries.
Rocky Trails Hidden in the Shining Achievements
Revealing his reality, Reza's struggle to achieve his dreams was not as easy as imagined. The student, known as an activist both on and off campus, also experienced a loss of orientation and goals that he had set when he first set foot at ITB. For two semesters, he went through lectures without making any significant changes. Until, in the fourth semester, he finally felt he had learned enough from the polemics of student life on campus and remembered his original goal of becoming the best student at ITB. At that turning point, Reza tried to expand his wings outside the campus that he had previously not touched. The highly proactive student studied soft skills on his own, such as how to present well and tips for creating a correct CV through the internet. He often practiced on his own to improve his abilities. Not stopping there, he was also not shy to consult and converse with most of his seniors who had extraordinary achievements to learn from them.
Whenever an opportunity arose, Reza tried to seize it by enrolling in training programs, internships, or self-development programs that seemed impossible at the time, without giving up. After seven months of waiting, Reza was unable to achieve anything, only his steely mentality and strong determination kept him moving forward tirelessly. Eventually, his efforts paid off and proved worthwhile. The same was true in his struggle to win competitions. Reza also experienced defeat in several competitions. However, this man, who had experienced financial difficulties and failed to advance a grade in high school, never gave up, continued to improvise and tried again, relentlessly, despite being rejected or failing to win the title. As a result, he managed to turn the tide and win competitions that had previously eluded him. Through all his experiences, Reza admits that he learned a lot, broadened his horizons, and learned the ins and outs of the dynamics of the corporate world.

“Common mistake that happens among university studentsespecially ITB students: when we entered ITB, each of us had big dreams. But a lot of us are only brave enough to dream it, not pursue it.That's why many people end up lost, suddenly their time is up, only to realize at the end that they still have dreams. Remember, we all have huge potentials, a lot bigger than we’ve imagined before. Plus, there are numerous opportunities to try out there. Open your eyes, knock the doors. Keep looking for what you are special at, what you love. Keep dreaming. Failing is just another word of growing, so just keep persistence on what you are chasing of,” ungkap Reza.
