Bandung, stei.itb.ac.id – On March 18, 2023, as many as 24 students and two lecturers from Electrical Power Engineering STEI ITB visited the PLTU (Steam Power Plant) in Cirebon, owned by PT Cirebon Power Services. This activity is one of the work programs of the Department Electrical Power Engineering STEI ITB to provide students with direct experience in understanding the processes that occur in PLTU.
During the visit, the students and lecturers were: Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Anggoro Soedjarno P., M.T. And Burhanuddin Halimi, S.T, M.T, Ph.D. Directly guided by a team of experts from PT Cirebon Power Services, participants were invited to tour various facilities and installations at PLTU, from the coal combustion process and water treatment to electricity generation. Participants were also given detailed explanations of the technology and machinery used at PLTU Cirebon.
The visit provided students with a firsthand experience of the power generation process at PLTU. It also provided an opportunity for them to broaden their knowledge of issues related to PLTU, such as environmental impacts and potential mitigation efforts.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Anggoro Soedjarno P., M.T., one of the lecturers, stated that the visit to PLTU Cirebon is expected to provide a clearer picture of the power generation industry and also provide insight for students regarding the challenges and opportunities that exist in the field of electrical power engineering. Furthermore, he also hopes this activity can be the first step for students to be more involved in solving issues related to PLTU.
It is hoped that activities like this can continue to be carried out by Electrical Power Engineering Study Program STEI ITB and other educational institutions, so that students can gain direct experience and broader insight into various aspects of the power generation industry.
