PME ITB as a Center of Excellence in Science and Technology in the Field of BWA
The Ministry of Research, Technology and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenristek RI) on Tuesday (17/12/2013) designated the ITB Microelectronics Center (PME) as a Center of Excellence in Science and Technology in the field of Broadband Wireless Access (PUI-BWA). PME ITB was founded in 1986 through collaboration between DIKTI and the World Bank to become center of excellence activities academic, research, and development in the field of microelectronics technology. With expert human resources, comprehensive supporting equipment, and extensive experience, PME ITB is worthy of becoming a national Center of Excellence in Science and Technology.

PUI-BWA has four main objectives, namely technology and design development, human resource development, industrial ecosystem development, and increasing economic growth through technology. broadband wireless accessPUI-BWA will be fostered for a period of 3 years (2014-2016) and will be given support in the form of funds, ease of procedures and administration, national to international networks, socialization to the community and industry regarding the utilization of research results, to establishing cooperation with other parties. In addition to PME ITB, several other institutions that will also be fostered to become Centers of Excellence in Science and Technology in 2013 are, the Coffee and Cocoa Research Center, the Center for Active Material Pigment Research at Ma Chung University, the Center for Primate Animal Studies at IPB, the Center for Application of Isotope and Radiation Technology at Batan, and the Center for Land Reclamation Technology Research at the Jambi University Research Institute.
According to the Minister of Research and Technology, Ir. Gusti Muhammad Hatta, Ms., to become a Center of Excellence in Science and Technology, an institution must meet two requirements: academic and economic requirements, so that the center of excellence can generate benefits. During his visit to the ITB exhibition stand, Hatta expressed his pride in being able to see advanced technology products made domestically. At the exhibition, ITB showcased various products and research posters in the field of Microelectronics. In addition, a video streaming demo of 4G technology-based products was also shown.
"We at the ITB Microelectronics Center have succeeded in creating a 4G technology-based chip, including its board and application, which has a domestic content level (TKDN) of more than 90%.," he said. Trio Adiono, Ph.,D selaku kepala PME ITB.
The Ministry of Research and Technology stated that there are still 12 more research and development institutions being prepared to become centers of excellence in science and technology in various fields in the six economic corridors of the MP3EI, such as suboptimal land development, land reclamation technology, sustainable tropical forests, renewable energy, seaweed, tourism, large ruminants, sago, etc.
